Client: Maryland/DC Collaborative for Healthcare Information Technology

Challenge/Objective
The Maryland/DC Collaborative for Health Information Technology is a grassroots non-profit organization led by private practice physicians, this group recently joined forces with community hospitals and the three major health care systems in the region (Johns Hopkins Medicine, MedStar Health, and the University of Maryland Medicine). The coalition's mission is to bridge the disconnect between the healthcare industry’s delivery system and its ability to effectively utilize information technology.
The objective for Link Studio was to create a strong identity system, PDF template, report cover, tradeshow poster and Web site to help the organization establish a Web presence.
Solutions/Results Achieved
Three identity concepts were presented. The final logo design focuses on the concept of the convergence of information and the flow of data exchange between the disparate entities. On a second level, the image is an abstract representation of a tree with the roots below and branches above. The roots represent the grassroots aspect of the organization and the branches represent growth and the goal of reaching out and branching out to the different entities. This logo has a feeling of movement and the curves give it a friendly or approachable feel. Once the logo was established, the design elements and concepts were carried through to the identity system which included business cards, letterhead, PDF template and report cover.
The Web site design also reflects the message of the logo. The design incorporates the lines, shapes and colors of the logo. The design communicates movement, technology, advancement and the location of the organization. The information architecture reflects the current needs. A members only section was also designed to help members coordinate activities and exchange information. Functionality such as message boards, task lists, news and updates specific for committees that a member may belong to and a searchable member directory were incorporated into the secure and password-protected area.
In addition to the identity system and site design, Link Studio worked with the Client to create a tradeshow poster to assist in marketing their organization. Our relationship with the Client continues as we work to evaluate the current site in order to make recommendations and updates to the site for their growing needs.
